A Bit About Me
I'm Alicia, born and raised in Penang and currently living in Kuala Lumpur. I'm skilled in nutrition and content creation, and I have a diverse range of experiences in sales, marketing, digital entrepreneurship, and nutrition within specific sectors.
I love animals, people, and enjoy networking and singing, which allows me to connect with others in meaningful ways.
- I was born and raised in Penang and attended a Convent school for both primary and secondary education.
- I picked up Mandarin in primary school and participated in Mandarin poetry recitation competitions.
- I was involved in choir, netball, and Girl Guides during my schooling days which connected me to multiple communities I still keep in touch with.
- My friends at school were high-achieving and ambitious, actively joining competitions to gain new skills and experiences for long term benefits of having diverse knowledge areas.
- My dad is a horse trainer in the racing industry, and my mom works in sales. I grew up witnessing the value of hard work through their careers and have been inspired to always give my 100%.
- I grew up around horses but was often kept away due to their aggressive nature and the adult environment of the racing scene which is unsuitable for under the age of 21.
- I learned the horse training career path starts from stable boy > manager > assistant trainer > trainer.
- It's mainly sustainable in Selangor and Perak in Malaysia as many tracks have been disbanded by the government due to betting culture.
- I relocated to KL in 2018 to attend Sunway College, where I had a vibrant college experience with the social culture of the student community there.
Educational Journey
- I graduated from high school in 2017 and then ventured into A Levels But found it unsuitable due to the fully academic examination structure.
- I enrolled in the Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) program, which offered a more diverse course structure focused on Nutrition and Wellness.
- I noticed that KL students are more laid-back compared to my friends from Penang from my personal experience.
- In 2020, I joined a Swiss non-profit organisation, Thoughts for Food, where I discovered my love for Nutrition.
- I enrolled in UCSI University, majoring in Nutrition and Wellness, where my subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Life Extension, Business Law, and Marketing.
- Prevention and reversal in nutrition are my focuses, which contrasts with the diagnostic approach in dietetics.
Skills and Interests
- I began creating content for ongoing trends during the covid lockdown with the spare time I had being at home, which gained a lot of traction and followers since trends support the algorithm’s favour.
- As my followers grew, brands started reaching out to me to participate in their influencer marketing campaigns and eventually brand events once the lockdown had ended, which launched me even further in growing my platform with the added brand association recognition.
- Being an influencer / KOL has given me the network that benefits my nutrition profession being able to execute campaigns for healthier eating digitally and educate audiences on the importance of nutrition
- There’s a substantial difference between TikTok and Instagram’s algorithm, it is much easier to diversify your audience on TikTok because the algorithm places your on trend content onto the “for you page" of non-followers.
- Whereas I found that Instagram prefers categorised content shot aesthetically and focuses on reaching your existing followers rather than placing your content on the explore page as a micro influencer.
Professional Experience
-
Internships & Freelancing
- PPR Companies: I joined PPR companies that approached messaging with a psychological perspective, like engaging children in growing their own veggies.

- By tracking metrics like weight and field time, I ensure each athlete is reaching their full potential.
- I continued working part-time with the teams after completing my initial role, learning from nutritionists who have worked with top athletes like Lee Chong Wei.

Misinformation on Social Media of Nutrition
- My career allows me to work flexibly with either products, such as those in pharmacy and supplementation, or directly with people, focusing on different age groups, communities, and specific areas of need. This versatility enables me to address both individual and broad-spectrum nutritional needs.
- I am passionate about using nutrition to positively impact lives, equipped with the resources necessary to enhance wellness.
- As a Mandarin speaker, I am able to extend my reach and effectively communicate with a broader audience.
- One of the significant challenges I face is combating misinformation spread by influencers on social media, it requires constant vigilance and a commitment to providing accurate, evidence-based nutritional advice.
- For my nutrition consultations, I charge a standard fee of RM100 per hour, and I also offer flexible monthly fee models.
- This structure allows clients to choose a payment plan that best fits their needs while receiving comprehensive nutritional guidance.
