A Bit About Me
Hi I am Kua and I have been helping companies as an employee or as a consultant for the past 30 years, especially in consumer goods. My areas of expertise cover sales, marketing, business and organisational skills.
- I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, specifically in Segambut, where I spent my formative years and attended Methodist Boys' school for primary education.
- I believe the significance of diverse roles and international experiences greatly contributed in shaping my professional journey which I’d be happy to share with you about.
- I am passionate about mentoring and nurturing local talent within global business environments, contributing to both personal and professional fulfilment.
Educational Journey
- I attended SMK Kepong, where I pursued the Science Stream for STPM (Malaysian Higher School Certificate).
- While not initially academically inclined, I thrived in vocational-focused environments, which led me to pursue a diploma in Hospitality at a TVET college. This practical education prepared me well for entering the workforce directly.
- I attended and graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) with a Bachelor's degree in Science and Polyculture. During the 1990s, the landscape of higher education in Malaysia was notably different, with fewer universities and degree programs compared to today.
Professional Experience
- Started my career at SRM, a local research company, where I gained foundational experience in data collection, processing, and client servicing within the dynamic Western and Eastern business environments.
- I transitioned to Gillette, where I held various roles over a span of 12 years, starting in marketing and progressing to sales and eventually serving as country manager. This tenure included a significant stint at Gillette's Boston headquarters, providing me with invaluable international exposure. My roles ranging from marketing representative to sales then back to marketing and then country manager every 2-3 years.
- My next venture would be when I joined L'Oreal to spearhead the launch of Garnier in Malaysia, showcasing my expertise in marketing, sales, and later general management within the Consumer Division, overseeing brands like L'Oreal Paris, Maybelline, and Guardian.
- My responsibilities included Strategic planning, Managing BNL, Managing people and resources, Operations to ensure projects run smoothly and continuously building good relationships with other departments
- My entrepreneurial journey started when I founded MyConnect at the age of 30, initially seeking a public speaker for business purposes.
- This endeavour evolved into a career in sales and marketing consulting, leveraging my extensive corporate background.
- My consulting focus is in advising business entrepreneurs on strategic planning, operational efficiency, and market positioning. One of the primary challenges I encountered was aligning marketing and digital strategies to ensure consistent and impactful outcomes for clients.
